Innovative
In early 2009, Skype recognized Dustin as one of the first to use its technology to deliver the news. Years before that, he established one of the first daily local news webcasts at KOMU-TV. Dustin helped train his colleagues on Twitter and is always introducing them to new technologies.

Investigative
After Hurricane Katrina, Dustin exposed a severe shortage in Missouri National Guard Equipment. Dustin is trained by both IRE and NICAR in investigative and computer-assisted reporting techniques. When news breaks, Dustin is able to go in depth with data and documents in short order: whether identifying Oklahoma’s “bad bridges” the day of the Minnesota Bridge Collapse or breaking down crime statistics after a major Augusta gang roundup.

With reports of a tornado over the Augusta National during the Masters, Dustin was ready for the Weather Channel’s call. A trained National Weather Service Skywarn storm spotter, Dustin has has seen tornadoes form and covered their deadly aftermath. Dustin’s path has taken him from post-Katrina New Orleans to the “TomKat” wedding. He has covered the Masters Tournament and the disappearance of a Governor. He’s interviewed Presidential candidates and Nobel Laureates.
